Chopping Tracks is one way Lia engineers new sounds and sound combinations for her songs.

Sound Engineering Through Chopping Tracks

The complexity and depth of Alien Tribe’s sound might be explained by Lia’s chopping tracks to create new sounds. Maybe there is a 30 second vocal or instrumental piece. Lia will copy two seconds of it, put it on another track and replicate it five or ten times with a slight space between it. Then she will apply affects to it. Her songs are filled with this type of electronic twist on audio engineering. A typical song may have over 1000 individual sound elements that result from this type of chopping and placing. (more…)

Alien Tribe’s Improvisation With Feeling

Improvisation that includes adjusting synthesizers during her performance is how Lia finds the sounds and rhythms for her songs.

She then starts recording. As she performs, she continues to improvise the sounds by adjusting various synthesizers while playing. This creates a more complex and varied sound because both the sounds and the rhythm go through changes during each recording session. (more…)
